At times I’m just a bit cynical, and during other times I’ve got a lot of faith in the world. It’s not that I don’t trust people, love people, or care for people. The truth of the matter is that I have done all of these things, with every hope of giving people the benefit of the doubt too. And in time those certain patterns start to show; that time when you realize that some people can lie more easily than they can smile. But even still, I’m more than capable of welcoming someone into my life, though nowadays it’s no simple walk through the door. I wouldn’t say that—for every time someone has spoken under their breath, taken advantage of my help, or left without notice—I’ve lost an ounce of my security for feelings of insecurity. No. I’d like to say that I’ve grown wiser, aware, and more careful with people.
